The Tunnel

The tunnel is dark. You know there's no light at the end of the tunnel. And yet you want to go through it. That's how bad emotions can control a person. It is probably a beautiful thing as long as one stays away from the self-destruct button. I hope I haven't pressed one already. "When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion" - Dale Carnegie Most of my decisions have "emotion" as one of the parameters. I don't know if it's a good thing. But the battle of rational and emotional arguments, is totally one sided. The latter always wins. Unless you're Dhoni. If you are, you don't need to worry about all this. Your "gut" knows better. Every time you come up with a set of reasonable points to back a good practical choice, the damn emotion will sway you towards the other. It drives you away from reality. But again, there's no fun in doing something just fo

That Thin Line

There is always a thin line. There are always two sides. Like the thin line between nice funny and getting-slapped-in-the-face funny, or the thin line between i-am-good confidence and i-am-better-than-you confidence, or the most clich éd  - love and hate.  There is a thin line between the usage of some words in Europe and USA.  The difference is so eccentric, countries like India get confused. For instance, the usage of the words "ma'am" and "madam". "Madam" is actually an offensive word to use in some parts of the world.  The other day I was waiting for the signal to turn green. An old man, probably in his mid-sixties, was standing by his bicycle along the left side of the road. A person behind him on a pulsar wanted to take a left turn, but couldn't as the old man was blocking his path. He started honking and he asked him to move ahead. The person was already on the edge, he ignored. The guy on the bike kept on honking. The old man pani

Three years ago I joined PICT. Still remember those days, as if all that happened last month. Time flies only when you don't want it to. A lot happened in the these three years. Strangers became friends, friends became strangers. But these friends will remain this way for a long long time. Probably now I'm mature enough to decide where a friend should be - Stack or a Priority Queue. First day in college, some one asked me, "Pallod Creations(a saree shop) tumhara hai kya ?" I said NO. He was hoping for some discount may be. People still ask me this. FE was super strict. More like 5th grade. Wish I could use that attendance now in BE. Those subtle OFF OFF chants which became a regular thing in SE, didn't really have a good start. "You want OFF ? I'll give you permanent OFF" was the exact reply, if I remember correctly. It did become a big issue. Scared as shit, we did not try that for some time. I still don't know why I feel this way, but

Stop talking!

How to ask people to stop talking without actually asking them to? A simple smile is never enough. Sometimes it encourages the person to talk more. I was at the passport office last December, waiting for my turn. Still remember the family sitting next me, talking and talking about stuff none of them cared about for all I know. Wanted to get out of there. A few minutes later I got a call from my mother. And as fate would have it, those guys heard me talk in the same language they've been talking all this time. Out of no where, they started talking to me. "Where are you from? What do you do? Which college?..." And I was more like, "Are you kidding me? Who the f*** are you? Stop talking." Obviously I did not say all this. I'm sure everyone has a weird relative who just cannot stop talking about anything. Politics, work, movies, sports, other relatives . Yes, some people always have an opinion. Even when you don't need one. And they want you to agree

The Match Winner

"You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain" - The Dark Knight         There are men like Jonathan Trott who go on a sabbatical out of nowhere. There are men like Yuvraj Singh who, despite cancer, hang on. And, there are these plastic fans who should stop watching Cricket. He has never scored more than 150 in ODI's, but he has probably won more matches for us than any other player this decade. Its funny how Indians (read hypocrites) start making these stupid jokes when a player fails. Almost as if these people want India to lose to target the "scapegoat". He is one of the best finishers, one of the best fielders and a very effective bowler and was India's best player in 2007 and 2011 World Cup triumphs. Cannot imagine how India would have fared minus Yuvraj. Two wickets and 57 runs vs Australia in the second qualifier in 2011 is the perfect testament to summarize his entire career. Tendulkar and Gavaskar did not win

That boring lecture

A boring lecture is when my brain is most active. Yeah, that's right. What all goes around in my head is surprisingly insane.  Starts with, "What am I doing here ?" "Lets draw Heisenberg on the last page" "Okay, now try to pay attention" "Is this the saddest thing ever ? No wait, Turbo C can give some solid competition" "Lets count the number of people in the class today" "WTF ! never seen this guy before in this class !" "Okay, back to the lecture" "Why did they include this subject in the syllabus ?" "What on earth is happening here?" "Why did Walter White go by the name "Heisenberg" and not "Schrodinger" ?" "George R.R. Martin is so old. What if he fails to conclude Game Of Thrones" "This does not look correct, lets draw Heisenberg again" "WTF ! 45 minutes more :/" *Checks phone* "0 notificati

All good things must end

Every autumn trees shed their leaves to protect themselves. Irony. Imagine a week without sunset. That's a week without sunrise. The final "good bye" is always tough, but sometimes you've got to let things go and let destiny take its course. Some of the greatest and the most successful stories concluded last year. Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sir Alex Fergussion, Paul Scholes. Oh and also, Dexter and Heisenberg. Some of these legends have been around for over two decades. Who knows how things would have been had they still be playing. This had to happen someday, but so many in one year ? That's a lot to digest.  Manchester United is struggling to get into the top 4 right now. So did India after Kirsten left some years back. But all good things come to an end. "Hope" is the one thing which will always stay.
