The Bad Guy

In one of my previous posts, I had written about adapting to changes in life and accepting life in its unadulterated form. Does that mean we’ve surrendered before our inner demons? Is it that we are too obsequious to challenge our destiny? Is it always about what we DESERVE? The bad guy in me says, “NO, it’s about what you WANT”.  Another question, “What exactly is the difference between ‘desire’ and ‘deserve’?”
Bad guy – “It’s getting too senti bro, I’m leaving”.

A couple of years ago, I came across some article in a magazine. It was about a 16 year old girl from Bangalore who got up on a Monday morning to find her father dead in the balcony. I know, Mondays are not supposed to be good, but such a nightmarish start was not called for. A week later she discovered, the place she lived her entire childhood was mortgaged. She couldn’t believe that her life just took the worst possible turn. A girl who once lived like a princess, had to live a normal, middle class life now. Looking at her mother and her little sister, her dream of moving to London to study economics disappeared. She thought of becoming a doctor instead, thinking that wouldn’t pressurize her mother. Years later, after becoming a neuro surgeon, she thought to herself, “Is this what I am supposed to be?” Her mother was happy, so was her sister, but she wasn’t.

We live just once, and according to the bad guy, we should live it the way we want to. But sometimes it isn’t the best option. Relationships are more important than our selfish ambitions. Sacrificing your dream for someone you love, can give you that happiness which is not materialistic.

Celebrities like Jim Carrey, Charlie Chaplin & Halle Berry were all homeless at one stage in their lives. Lata Mangeshkar had lost her dad at the age of thirteen, look where she is now. Lance Armstrong and Yuvraj Singh had achieved enough before they were caught by the deadly disease. After being cured, they had an option to retire and spend the rest of their lives, the easier way. Neither of them did that though. In the movie ‘Rockstar’, there’s this guy who says, “Real music comes out only when you experience extreme pain and sorrow”. That is so true. Pain does act like a catalyst. The desire to challege 'Destiny' gets the best out of you.

Well that did make some sense. Before taking any material decision, one should first resolve the inner conflict between ‘good’ and ‘bad’. The good guy is always correct.. But the bad guy is not always wrong.
